Gustavo R. Gonzalez passed away in his home in Hollister on Feb. 21, 2011 at the age of 74. Gustavo (Tavo) was born on Nov. 24, 1936 in Jerez, Zacatecas Mex and immigrated to the United Stated as a child. Gustavo spent most of his life residing in Hollister.

Gustavo served in the United States Army and during his service spent time in Iceland which he often spoke about. He was a self employed auto mechanic for most of his life and previously owned the Exxon gas station on the corner of San Felipe Rd. and SR-25 in the early 70’s. Gustavo also owned his own auto mechanic shop, worked at Tri-Valley Growers Cannery and Guerra Nut Shelling Co.

Gustavo enjoyed playing cards in his home on a daily basis, with his close friends. He also rarely missed a Thursday night karaoke downtown. He was a member of the Teamsters and the Catholic Church.

Gustavo is survived by his children Gustavo Gonzalez and Ma. Concepcion Gonzalez both living in Mex., Margarita Gonzalez, Andrew Gonzalez, Erica Gonzalez Elias and Albert Gonzalez of Hollister, his sister Teresa G. Carlos from Modesto, ten grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Gustavo G. Gonzalez and Andrea R. Gonzalez, his sisters Emma G. Rayas and Ofelia G. Barrios.

A viewing and a rosary will be on Feb. 23, 2011, at Black-Cooper-Sander Funeral Home at 7PM. Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Feb. 24, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. followed by a graveside service at Calvary Cemetery.
