Salvatore “Sal” Masoni, local farmer and life-long Gilroy resident entered into eternal rest on August 19, 2011, after a lengthy illness.

Sal attended local schools and met his wife-to-be Gloria in high school. After graduation Sal served in the US Army stationed in the South Pacific. Upon his return he married Gloria and together they had four children – Richard, Linda, Susan and David.

Sal farmed in the Gilroy area with his brothers Louie and Richard for almost 40 years primarily growing prunes.

During those years they helped organize the local Sunsweet Cooperative. Sal was an expert orchardist and took great pride in caring for and maintaining the many acres they farmed. He also enjoyed cooking and eating a great Italian meal with red wine.

Sal will be remembered for his honesty, compassion and his work ethic. He is survived by children Richard Masoni (Janet), Linda Gonzales (Frank), Susan Hickey (Mike) and David Masoni, his brother Richard Masoni, grandchildren – Adrian Masoni, Jacob Hickey, Brandon Masoni and Joshua Masoni, plus numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Frank Masoni, Louie Masoni and wife Gloria.

Services to be held Thursday August 25, 2011, at Habing Funeral Home located at 129 4th Street, Gilroy, CA. Viewing will be held at 10:00 A.M. with funeral service following at 11:00 A.M. followed by entombment at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers donations are requested to be made to Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice in Monterey, CA.
