The San Benito baseball team’s scheduled league game against Palma on Tuesday, the track team’s league meet against Salinas on Wednesday and the softball team’s league game against Notre Dame on Thursday were all postponed due to the tragic events that took place in Salinas last weekend.

Make-up dates were not announced for the baseball and softball games, although the track meet will be held on Tuesday, April 27, at 3:30 p.m.

The postponements are in light of Friday’s car accident in Salinas that killed two teenagers, Bella Dakis and Gen Giammanco. Dakis reportedly spent her freshman and sophomore years at Notre Dame before transferring to Salinas High, according to The Salinas Californian.

The San Benito baseball team will now open a home-and-home series with Alisal on Friday and Saturday. The Balers will visit the Trojans on Friday at 4 p.m., and will host the Salinas school on Saturday at 11 a.m.

The Lady Balers, meanwhile, who defeated Alisal 8-0 on Tuesday, will return to the Steinbeck Classic this weekend in Salinas to resume tournament play. San Benito went 2-0 last Saturday, and will open against San Lorenzo Valley at the Salinas Sports Complex this Saturday. First pitch is 11 a.m.

As for the track team, its next scheduled meet will come Saturday, when the team is expected to attend the Bill Kearney Invitational at Salinas High School.
