The walk-in registrations will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., while

The program is for ball players ages 6-12.

Ronnie Lott, Greg Jamison headline Frys.com Open host committee
Frys.com Open Tournament Director Ian Knight announced Tuesday the seven members of the 2010 Frys.com Open Host Committee. The Frys.com Open, the first-ever, full-field PGA Tour event in Silicon Valley, will be played at CordeValle in San Martin, from Oct. 13–17.
The Host Committee is made up of prominent, sports-minded business leaders located in and around the Bay Area. Host Committee members are tasked with creating unique ways of spreading the tournament message as well as donating their time during tournament week at various events.
The 2010 Frys.com Open Host Committee members include: Kathy Kolder (Founder/EVP of Fry’s Electronics), Greg Jamison (President – San Jose Sharks/Silicon Valley Sports & Entertainment), Ronnie Lott (San Francisco 49er Alumni/All-Stars for Kids/Champions Charities), Pat Dando (President – San Jose & Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce), George Maxe (Executive Director of the First Tee of San Jose), Brian Reynard (Cisco Systems/Silicon Valley Executive Network) and Greg Rivers (Steelhead Advisors).
“We are extremely pleased with the members of our Host Committee,” Knight said. “We have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge about the community from these folks and that will go a long way in making the first-ever PGA Tour event in Silicon Valley a success.”
The Frys.com Open is part of the PGA Tour’s Fall Series and features a full-field (132 players), four-day tournament with a $5 million purse and $900,000 payout to the winner. The tournament will be played Oct. 11-17 at CordeValle in San Martin, located just 25 minutes south of title sponsor Fry’s Electronics headquarters in San Jose.

Local makes hole-in-one at Ridgemark
Ellen Pingree of Hollister scored a hole-in-one on the 17th hole of the Diable Course at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club on Aug. 4.
Pingree made the ace from 100 yards out with her 6-iron.
Coed soccer league science ups
The YMCA of San Benito County recently announced sign-ups for two coed soccer leagues, each of which will kick-off in September.
One league will be for boys and girls ages 2 and a half to 5 years old. The season will last six weeks and will run from Sept. 11 to Oct. 16, with players aged 2 and a half to 3 and a half meeting Saturdays from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., and players aged 4 to 5 years old meeting Saturdays from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.
Cost is $45.
Another soccer league will be geared toward boys and girls in K through fifth grade. The season will last from Sept. 25 through Nov. 20, with first practices slated for the week of Sept. 13. Most games will be held on Saturdays.
Cost is $75.
The program’s vision is to encourage a love for the game and companionship between players through the teaching of skills, development of positive attitudes about fair play, teamwork and reinforcement of the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Flook finishes 2nd at Santa Barbara rodeo
Paicines resident John Flook recorded a 75 in the saddle bronc event at Old Spanish Days Stock Horse Show and Rodeo in Santa Barbara last weekend, and placed second overall as a result.
Flook finished in a three-way tie for second with John Redig and Monty Schaack, each of whom walked away with $679 apiece.
The Paicines cowboy is currently sitting in seventh place overall in the California Circuit.
Meanwhile, Tres Pinos resident Elliot French recorded a 72 in the saddle bronc event and finished in second place overall at the Sonoma County Fair Wine Country Rodeo in Santa Rosa on July 31.
The high finish positions French in 11th place on the circuit standings, which also includes Tres Pinos’ Jeff Rianda (13th) as well.
Barone’s Baseball to host wiffle ball fundraiser
Barone’s Baseball, which has batting cages and offers hitting and pitching lessons in Hollister, will host the First Annual Wiffle Ball Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 14, at Dick Barone Field, located at 351 San Felipe Road in Hollister.
The event will kick-off with a home run derby at 9 a.m., with the wiffle ball tournament slated to begin at 10:30 a.m.
Registration is $25 per player for the tournament (includes food and drink), and teams must consist of a minimum of three players and a maximum of five players (only three players in the field at a time). The home run derby, which is optional, is $10 per player. Raffle tickets will also be sold for $1.
All proceeds will go directly to Barone’s 21s, a 13-and-under travel baseball team.
There will be two divisions — adult (13+) and youth (7-12) — and prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in the tournament, first place in the home run derby, as well as best original uniforms.

Additionally, Barone’s Baseball will host the Baseball Olympics, where kids will train and compete in daily competitions to win a prize. Events include home run derby, base-hit game, pitching accuracy, bunting, base running and sliding, among others.
The camp will run from Aug. 9-13 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Cost is $100 for non-members, $80 for members, and is limited to the first 24 campers, ages 8-16.

Baler Backers fundraiser set for Aug. 28
The Baler Backers Athletic Organization will host the Third Annual “Baler Summer Nights” on Aug. 28 at San Juan Oaks.
The dinner-and-dancing event will include a meal, no-host bar, a silent and live auction and raffles. Tickets are $65 each and $500 for a table of eight, $625 for a table of 10.
The Baler Backers will also be presenting a donation check to the athletic department to offset the proposed cuts for the 2010-11 school year. The Athletic Department has taken a $100,000 cut to its athletic budget for the 2010-11 school year.

USYVL holding registrations for fall volleyball
The USYVL is holding registrations for the fall volleyball season, which will run for eight weeks beginning in September at Paradise Park in Morgan Hill.
The USYVL is an instructional volleyball league that operates in a coed format for boys and girls ages 7-15. The organization’s mission is to provide every child with a chance to learn and play volleyball in a fun, safe, supervised and low-pressure environment. Every child plays and learns the game, with emphasis on sportsmanship, cooperation and teamwork.

Ridgemark to host junior tournaments in August
The Ridgemark Golf and Country Club has announced its Junior Golf Club tournament schedule for 2010.
The next scheduled tournament set for Aug. 14 at 3 p.m.
No sign-up is necessary for the tournaments. Interested golfers can sign up on the day of the event, at least 15 minutes prior to tee time, and choose between four-, six- or nine-hole tournaments.

San Juan Oaks announces junior program, Club ‘Boom Boom’
The San Juan Oaks Golf Club is proud to present our junior program, Club “Boom Boom.” Inspired by San Juan Oaks Course Designer, Fred Couples, our junior program is offered for youth ages 6-17 years old.
Juniors pay $5 for green fees Monday through Friday after 2:30 p.m. with an accompanying adult who pays $35 (cart fees not included), and pay $10 for greens fees Saturday, Sunday and on holidays after 2:30 p.m. when playing with an accompanying adult who pays $45 (cart fees not included).
Members receive $5 off our normal junior rate good anytime Monday through Friday, and receive a small bucket of range balls for only $2 every day (up to two small buckets per day).
Junior members also receive a 10 percent discount on private golf lessons with our San Juan Oaks teaching staff, while an end-of-the-year golf clinic will cover aspects like full swing, short-game shots, putting and a rules seminar followed by a no-host barbecue luncheon.
