MORGAN HILL
An 82-year-old woman from Minnesota broke her wrist when she fell to the ground during a robbery attempt near Cochrane Plaza, police said.
The woman told police she and her 85-year-old husband had just visited Bank of America to cash a check about 2 p.m. Tuesday, and then drove to Marie Callender’s restaurant to eat. As the woman was exiting the parked car on the passenger’s side, an unknown man ran by and attempted to grab her purse, which she was holding in her right hand, according to Morgan Hill police Sgt. Jerry Neumayer.
Unwilling to relinquish her purse, the woman yelled at the would-be robber, who pulled harder and caused her to fall to the ground. He let go of the purse and ran toward Jarvis Drive, Neumayer said.
The woman’s husband was unable to get out of the car in time to assist her, but he described the suspect as a male, 5-feet, 9-inches to 5-feet, 10-inches tall, 160 to 175 pounds, and wearing blue jeans and a dark colored shirt.
He drove his wife to Saint Louise Regional Hospital, where she was treated for a fracture in her right wrist. She was released from the hospital later the same day.
