Manuel “Mela” Montalvo passed away peacefully May 22, 2009 in the presence of loved ones. Survived by her children Sophia (Pedro) Ramirez, Olga Hernandez of Gilroy and Frank Montalvo Jr. of Del Rio, TX, also survived by her sisters Maria “Cuca” Heredia of Chicago, IL and Jennie Hernandez of Gilroy. Survived by 20 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 17 great- great -grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband Frank Montalvo Sr. and children Belia Garcia, Maria Cervantez and Rose Tomasetti, also preceded in death by her parents Margarita and Juan Manuel Hernandez, sister Panchita Ramirez and brothers Theodoro Hernandez Sr. and Samuel Hernandez.

She was born in Port Arthur, TX and moved to Gilroy in 1952 to raise her family as a homemaker and seasonal worker for Filice and Perelli cannery for 30 years. Things she enjoyed most were dancing and having a good time with family and friends as well as cooking, playing bingo and the occassional trip to the casinos. Forever in our hearts, we give thanks to the lord for his blessings and her peaceful passing.

Funeral Mass held 10:00 A.M. Thursday, May 28, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church.
