Cesare “Chea” James Bertero passed away at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital on Saturday, August 8th, 2009, at the age of 88 years.

“Chea” as he was affectionately called by his family and friends, was a native of Salata, Genoa, Italy who migrated to San Benito County with his late parents Erminio and Palmira Bertero when he was two years old. They later settled in San Lorenzo, CA where he graduated from Hayward High School. His class just celebrated their 70th class reunion. Until he retired, the last 61 years of his life was spent in Hollister as a apricot, walnut, and prune orchardist. Chea was an avid hunter and fisherman as well as a loyal San Francisco 49-er fan. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Erminia “Babe” and Domingo Pagano of San Leandro; brother-in-law Eli Tonini (late spouse Theresa) of San Leandro; nephews John Pagano (spouse Linda and family) of Hayward and Bob Pagano of San Leandro; cousins Maryann and Bob Orlando and family, Peter and Marjorie Pagano and family, and Irma Bertuccio all of Hollister; as well as many other relatives in Northern Italy.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 13th, 2009, at the Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home 870 San Benito St., Hollister from 9:00 A.M. until the funeral ceremony begins at 11:00 A.M. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. The family members are most appreciative for the wonderful care that Chea received from his caregivers.
