Jack Harris Randle

April 16, 1923, Okolona, AR – September 27, 2009, Monterey, CA

The Central Coast of California lost another affiliate of Tom Brokaw’s The Greatest Generation.

Representing his county with valor in the US Army, as Veteran of WWII, Jack served under General George Patton in the 80th Infantry Division “Blue Ridge” in the European Campaign during the march across Europe and the Battle of the Bulge. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart with two clusters. Jack became a history buff on the events World War II, which provided interesting conversations with those who would savor his comprehension of facts.

Jack’s experience and understanding of the military’s need to feed troupes, lead him into the frozen food industry. Jack was a leader who mentored several to achieve their highest and best potential. He was the Chairman of the Board for the VPS Companies in Watsonville, CA and spent the last 44 years building the business with his partner and best friends Fred and Gail Haas. Together they built a diverse group of companies serving the food industry, which many of their children have become part of and is a legacy that will be passed onto many future generations.

Constantly surrounded by his family and friends, Jack was noted for his warm hospitality, varied knowledge, quick wit and good humor. He enjoyed traveling via motorhome with his beloved wife Carol, and Tzu Hsi, the Shih Tzu. He was very active individual; an avid golfer, who played golf every chance he got. Jack was also an enthusiastic and all-around sportsman, duck hunter, shotgun sports participant and a passionate boater and salt-water angler. He considered fishing anywhere, anytime to be the best time of his life. He lived his life to the fullest every single day.

Several non-profit boards benefited from Jack’s business prowess in organization and fundraising skills, including United Scleroderma. Jack enjoyed the fellowship of lodges and fraternal organizations of the BPOE, Monterey Peninsula Yacht Club, American Frozen Food Institute, Monterey Golf & Country Club in Palm Desert, CA

Jack will be remembered lovingly by: His wife Carol Randle, his daughters Linda Raven, Kimm Randle (Paul Fenech) and Jennie Randle, his son Mike Randle (Kim), his grandchildren, Matt and Garret Gafke, Kellie Reisinger, Marlee Day, Taylor Randle, Logan Randle, and Jason Arms, his great-grandchildren, Sean and Jonah Gafke, Gavin Gafke, Chase and Caysie, his Brother Bill Randle (Mary Jo) of Visalia, CA.

As a member of the Neptune Society, his wishes are to be cremated and to have his ashes dispersed at his secret fishing spot.
