Richard Hutchinson, Jr. will succeed the retiring George Haines and has 29 years of experience in the fire service since he began at age 16. His career with Calfire started in August 1982.
He also served in Tulare and arrived in Monterey with a promotion to battalion chief in 1998, according to the statement. The Santa Clara unit hired him as assistant chief in 2000 and he later returned to the San Benito-Monterey unit as assistant chief.
The statement also notes how the Tulare unit selected him as “Firefighter of the Year” in 1996. He lives in Gonzales with his wife.
