Born in a coal mining town in Penn., Carol taught piano lessons to pay for nursing school, where she met her husband, Mel. After living all over the country their family settled in San Jose where Carol devoted herself to her career and her children. She was a dedicated nurse at Los Gatos Community Hospital and retired in 1999 to nanny her newborn grandsons. Carol leaves behind her a legacy of compassion, grace and love. She never ceased to heal those in need, in or out of the hospital. Her strength, independence and empathy are an inspiration to us all as we struggle to fill the void she has left behind in our hearts. Her infectious spirit will survive her. There are no words for how much we loved her.

Preceding her is former husband Melvin Thoryk and infant son Steven.

Surviving Carol are her children; John & wife Chris, Mark & wife Natalie, Kyra Whitten & husband Jeff, & her grandchildren Morgan, Nick, and Alex Thoryk and Kyle & David Whitten

Service & Reception: 2:00 P.M. Thursday March 27, at Hayes Mansion, 200 Edenvale Avenue, San Jose, CA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
