home. The seminar will cover topics of down payment assistance

The seminar is Tuesday, April 22 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the

Apply now for Miss San Benito Rodeo contest

HOLLISTER – Applications for the 2008 Miss San Benito Rodeo contest are now available at the following locations: the Bolado Park office, Rancher’s Feed, McAbee Feed, Tres Pinos Ranch and Feed Supply and the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce. County to hold e-waste event

TRES PINOS – A free e-waste event will be held at the San Benito County Fairgrounds at Bolado Park Saturday, April 19 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Residents may drop off any number of items at no charge. Broken recyclables will also be accepted. Items accepted at the event include: LCD TVs and monitors; laptops, Plasma screens, televisions, computer towers, printers, DVD players, copy machines, fax machines, calculators, keyboards, stereo systems, speakers, computer mice, telephones, cell phones; and VCRs.

The fairgrounds are located at 9000 Airline Hwy., just south of Tres Pinos. Vehicles dropping off e-waste should enter at Gate 3. For more information, call 628-3421 or go to www.sanbenitocountyfair.com.

Class of 1971 plans scholarship fundraiser

HOLLISTER – San Benito High School’s Class of 1971 will hold a luncheon/silent auction fundraiser to raise money for its scholarship fund Saturday, May 3 at Paine’s Restaurant, 421 East St. Tickets are $50 per person and should be reserved by Wednesday, April 23. Checks should be made out to Debbie Villalon and sent to her at 6875 Santa Ynez, Atascadero, CA 93422. Please make a note that the check is for the scholarship luncheon.

Gavilan College launches event Web site

GILROY – Local residents can now check out cultural, entertainment and sporting events happening at Gavilan College thanks to the launch of a new Web site, Gav Arts and Events. The site will serve as a guide to all of the performances, exhibits, sporting events, special events, lectures and other activities that are open to the public. Cultural events are offered through programs in music, theater, dance, television, fine arts and special events. Relay for Life captains to meet

HOLLISTER – A team captains meeting for the 2008 Relay for Life charity event will be held Thursday, April 24 at 6 p.m. in the back room of Paine’s Restaurant, 421 East St. This month’s discussion will be on cancer control month. The next meeting will be held Thursday, May 22. Relay for Life 2008 will be held Aug. 1-2.

HeArt of CASA fundraiser tickets on sale

HOLLISTER – The inaugural HeArt of CASA, a benefit silent auction and open house for CASA San Benito (Court Appointed Special Advocates) will be held Saturday, May 10 at San Juan Oaks Golf Club from 2-6 p.m. Locals are invited to the event or to sponsor the program. Tickets are $50 per person and admission includes a light dinner. Tickets are available at Drapoel/Teezers, Fortino’s Total Home Furnishings and Serene Home.

CASA is a nonprofit organization working with children in the juvenile dependency system. These children have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect and are placed in foster homes, group homes or with relatives and friends. CASA recruits and trains volunteers to work with these children during what is often a difficult time in their lives. Candidate holds reception

HOLLISTER – Grant Brians, a candidate in the District 1 supervisorial race, will host a Meet the Candidate reception Sunday, May 4 at his home, 6580 Fairview Road, from 1-5 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided and the public will have the chance to meet Brians and ask questions about his candidacy. Kids are welcome at the event.

Farmer’s Market looking for entertainers

HOLLISTER – The Farmer’s Market, sponsored by the Hollister Downtown Association, is looking for anyone interested in providing live entertainment for the market, which opens Wednesday, May 21. Winemaker’s dinner to raise money for Pantry

HOLLISTER – Community Pantry will host a Winemaker’s dinner at San Juan Oaks Saturday, April 26, from 6-10 p.m. A wine pairing is planned with a variety appetizers, meat, chicken, and fish entrees along with dessert. Each station will feature local winemakers pouring their favorite wines. Both silent and live auctions will be held, with some very impressive items available. For those who like to dance, a DJ will play after the auctions. Tickets are $100.
