Mateo “Matt” Tijerina, aged 80 years, passed away at his residence, November 6th with his family by his side. Matt as he was affectionately called by his family and friends, was a native of Sabinal, TX; was educated in Texas, and moved from Texas to Hollister 50 years ago. Matt worked in the wine industry for 25 years with Almaden Vineyards and upon his retirement, started his own landscaping business. He enjoyed being with his wife and family; the out of doors gardening and fishing, as well as watching the 49-ers, Giants, and A’s games. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Teamsters local union in Fresno; had been a volunteer fireman for the City Of Hollister for eight years; was very active in the Kingdom Hall Of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and was devoted to sharing the gospel with others. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Santos Tijerina of Hollister; his children and their spouses Anita Correa of Hollister; Rosalinda Howard (Joe) of Santa Cruz, Gilbert Tijeina (Debbie) of Sacramento, David Tijerina (Lisa) of Morgan Hill, and Velia Dozal of Hollister. 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, his brother Benito Tijerina (Margo), and many nieces and nephews survive.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 12th from 12 noon until 9:00 P.M. with a Talk given by the Kingdom Hall Of Jehovah Witnesses at 7:00 P.M.

Private cremation and inurnment will be held. Memorials are preferred to the Kingdom Hall Of Jehovah Witnesses c/o the mortuary chapel.
