Santo Caliri was born May 28, 1926 in Gilroy, CA. He was the son of Orazio and Giovanna Caliri and had two brothers, Frank and Buster and 5 sisters, Mary, Anna Mae, Annette, Frances and Jerry.

He loved working with land and was a farmer all his life; farming in Gilroy, Watsonville, Hollister and Salinas. He loved to tell jokes, graft trees, do woodworking, making things with corks and being with his family and friends. He would say, “drink more wine and save the corks for me.” He was a loyal member of the Watsonville Host Lions Club for many years. His whole life was devoted to family, friends and community and he will be deeply missed.

He passed away peacefully on December 23, 2008 at the age of 82. Santo was an outstanding husband and will be greatly missed by his wife of 58 years, Hazel Caliri. He was also a dedicated father to Sondra Rudell, Jody Sodaro and Shelia Cenicola as well as a wonderful grandfather to Wayne, Joey, Sara, Tommy, Jenifer and Johnny. He is also remembered by his 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and he loved them all very much.

A viewing will be held at Davis Memorial Chapel on Friday, December 26, 2008 from 6:00-9:00 P.M. A Celebration of Santo’s life will be held at Our Lady Help of Christians Valley Catholic Church, 2401 East Lake Ave., in Watsonville, on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Watsonville Host Lions club in his memory.
