Gilroy's Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero will fight Edel Ruiz on Jan. 24 in Los Angeles, ending a nearly 11-month layoff.

GILROY

Sources inside Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero’s camp have indicated the Gilroy native and former two-time IBF featherweight champion is likely to return to the ring in less than a month.

Signing a new deal with Golden Boy Promotions on Dec. 18, Guerrero is expected to fight on the undercard of the Jan. 24 WBA welterweight title fight between Antonio Margarito and Shane Mosley, which will take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and be televised on HBO.

Guerrero (22-1-1, 15 KOs) has not fought since Feb. 29, when he defended his IBF title by knocking out Jason Litzau in the eighth round, due to a contract dispute with his former promotional company, Goossen Tutor. Guerrero announced in June that he would be vacating the featherweight division and relinquishing his IBF title to make a move up to the 130-pound junior lightweight division.
