City Hall

Hollister City Council members Monday are set to hear from a consultant on potential directions for a sales tax extension.
Council members at their 6:30 p.m. Monday meeting at Hollister City Hall, 375 Fifth St., will hear a presentation from Lew Edwards Group on a possible sales tax extension.
Council members are considering a ballot measure in 2016 to extend the current 1 percent sales tax, approved by voters in November 2012, which expires in the spring of 2018. City officials also have considered options for a tax-sharing agreement with the county, which is considering sales tax measures of its own.
Both the city and county face multimillion-dollar deficits without a special sales tax. Hollister generates about $4 million annually from its sales tax with a general fund of about $18 million.
