Born, January 23, 1937, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Passed Saturday, April 21, 2007, Hollister, California

Jan Jones moved on to a better place Saturday, April 21st, 2007 after a valiant 2 year fight with brain cancer. Jan left behind her daughters, Laurie Jones and Tracy Nino, her son-in-law Mike Nino, her four grandchildren, Garrett, Katie, Sarah and Brenden, her brother John Aitken and family, and her large and loving second family–the rest of the “Nino Clan,” many of whom were affectionately by her side in the days preceding her death.

Jan also left behind a legacy of professionalism in various real estate based careers, the longest being with Sutter Hill Ltd., a property management firm in Palo Alto, CA. The impression Jan left upon anyone who worked with her was one of dignity, credibility, compassion and class. The relationships she established with people endured over time, as evidenced by the number of friends she maintained over the years. Many of her friends recently made the trek to Hollister this past January to celebrate her life and 70th birthday– a memory we will all carry with us as a tribute to both her determination and her love of a good party!

Jan will forever be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, a brilliant decorator, a knowledgeable and avid reader and gardener, the one who never forgot a special occasion, birthday or any other reason to impart a gift or a card upon you; a nice glass of wine (or two), good appetizers and chocolate, and most importantly time with her friends and family. Jan taught us all about class and humility during the last 2 years when cancer took its physical toll, yet she never complained or stopped moving forward to the best of her abilities at any given time.

A private family gathering will be held later this summer. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests you consider joining them in contributing to a special project she would have loved, benefiting the children of Chamberlain Children’s Center in Hollister. Donations will be used to complete a gardening area for the children’s recently completed park with roses, vines, a vegetable garden, gardening tools, etc. Contributions can be made to Chamberlain Children’s Center, Memo: Jan Jones Memorial Garden, Attn: Doreen, 1850 San Benito Street, Hollister, CA 95023.

The family expresses heart felt gratitude for all of the love and support given both now and during the past two years of her illness. She will truly be missed!
