August “Augie” J. Lavagnino passed away August 20 in Nevada City after a nearly two year battle with Lymphoma. He was 65.
Mr. Lavagnino was born June 28, 1942, to August and Edith Lavagnino in Gilroy. He attended elementary school in Hollister and Bellarmine and Hollister High School. He went on to attend the University of San Francisco and California State University, Fresno. On July 10, 1976, he married Marion Lazar in San Jose.
Mr. Lavagnino worked for United Airlines and Santa Clara County and was the assistant business manager for the Palo Alto Unified School District for 30 years.
He and his wife moved to Nevada City three years ago from Fremont.
Mr Lavagnino was a well-loved individual who had a knack for making a room full of people happy. He loved entertaining and was especially noted for his minestrone soup. His hobbies included wine making, cooking, investments and travel.
Mr. Lavagnino is survived by his wife, Marion Lavagnino; son Tony Lavagnino of Milpitas, daughter, Valerie Lavagnino of Chico; sister, Louise Covert of San Juan Bautista; brother, James Lavagnino of Oxnard; and niece, Renee Covert. He was preceded in death by his father, August C. Lavagnino, in 2003, and mother, Edith Lavagnino, in 1989.
