Doug Keen passed away October 27, 2006 at home surrounded by his family and loved ones after a brief battle with cancer. Born to Monroe and Mary Keen on July 14, 1934 in Lubbock, Texas, he was the third eldest of nine children. His family moved to Alameda in 1946. In 1951 he joined the US Navy where he served until 1954. Doug married his wife of 48 years, Shirley Armstrong in 1959 and together they raised nine children. He started Keen and Sons Pool Service in 1977 after relocating to Morgan Hill, CA the same year.

He is survived by his wife Shirley, his sons Gary Cooper and wife Linda, Dale Cooper, Allen Keen, James Keen and wife Cherie, and Jerrod Keen, his daughters Terri Rodgers, Laurie Holderfield and husband Jeff, brother Jerry and sisters Janie, Linda and Nancy, numerous nieces and nephews, 17 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. He is reunited in death with his daughters, Jennifer and Janice Keen.

Doug will be remembered as a man of many talents and as an avid sports enthusiast. He was an Oakland A’s and San Francisco 49ers fan.

In his younger days, he was an exceptional athlete and loved bowling, playing baseball and many other sports. His commitment to baseball led him to build his own wiffle ball field on the front section of the family property, located on Columbet Ave. A man of incredible patience, he touched the lives of many and will be fondly remembered by all.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 4th at 10 am at South Valley Community Church, 8095 Kelton Dr., Gilroy.
