Mary Ynegas Castaneda passed away at St. Louise Regional Medical Center on November 20th at the age of 86 years. Mary was a native of Jalisco, Mexico; moved to San Benito County at the age of 5 years, and attended local San Juan Bautista Schools. Mary was a homemaker all her adult life. She enjoyed being around her home and her family; cooking, gardening, and crocheting. She was a member of the Old Mission San Juan Bautista.

Mary was the spouse of the late Alfonso Padilla Castaneda who passed away in March, 1998. She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Stella and Rosalio Chavez of Santa Cruz, and Gloria and Joseph Martinez of Ojai, CA, her grandchildren; Lisa Fisher, spouse Sanford, of Hollister; Debbie Chavez of Fremont, Amy Chavez of Santa Cruz, and Rosalio Chaves Jr., spouse Jill, of Ben Lomond, her great- grandchildren; Diego Fisher, Marco Chavez, and Kyle Irwin. Also surviving is her brother Ray Ynegas of Hollister, nephew Jessie Mejia of Gilroy, and many other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brother John Ynegas and sister Aurora Ynegas. Visitation will be held at the Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home, 870 San Benito St., Hollister on Monday, November 28th from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with the recitation of the Rosary beginning at 7:00 pm. Family and friends will leave the mortuary chapel on Tuesday morning at 9:30 am for a Mass Of The Resurrection at 10:00 am at the Old Mission San Juan Bautista, 2nd & Mariposa Streets, San Juan Bautista. Interment will follow at San Juan District Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Cancer Society, c/o the mortuary chapel.
