Jun passed away in his home in Bakersfield, CA, on November 17, 2006, after a year-long battle with cancer. Jun was born and raised in Gilroy. He attended Gilroy High School and joined the Marines shortly after graduation in 1964. He served in Viet Nam before returning to Gilroy to attend Gavilan College, where he was an avid wrestler.
After graduation from San Diego State University, he started his career as a trader with Kassho, a Japanese trading company. He then joined Tenneco West, which was eventually bought out by Dole Corporation. After an illustrious career as a produce trader, he joined an independent firm from which he retired. Throughout his career, he made many life long friends, many of whom visited and supported him during this past year. His family would like to thank all of them for the pleasure he was given with each visit.
He is survived by his son, Scott Nakamura, Bakersfield, CA. His siblings, Utako Takemura, San Rafael, CA; Doug (Nobu) Nakamura, Placentia CA; Richard Nakamura, Gilroy, CA; Mary Nakamura, Kapaa, Kauai, HI; Susan Harris, San Juan Bautista, CA; and John Nakamura, Gilroy, CA. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jun was fortunate enough to have dear friends who stood by him when he needed it most. Bakersfield residents Roy and Chris Knight, and their daughter Ruthie, provided Jun with loving care for the past nine months.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Hajime and Yoshiye Nakamura, and his brothers Hiroshi Nakamura and Henry Kay Nakamura.
His life was celebrated at gatherings in Gilroy and Bakersfield.
In keeping with his wishes, no funeral or services will be held.
