Hollister resident Jess Barron Perez passed away from a short
illness at the Oasis Hospital in Tijuana, Mexico on March 1 at the
age of 67.
Hollister resident Jess Barron Perez passed away from a short illness at the Oasis Hospital in Tijuana, Mexico on March 1 at the age of 67.

Mr. Perez, a native of El Monte, had been a Santa Clara County resident living in Morgan Hill and Gilroy most of his life until he moved to Hollister in 1997. Jess was a graduate of Gilroy High School. He was a veteran who served with the U. S. Navy. He was also a member of the International Brotherhood Of Teamsters, San Jose local; the Knights Of Columbus and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of Gilroy.

Jess loved the outdoors, whether working with his tractor, camping, hunting, or being involved in sports with his family.

“He was a person of his own style, naturally athletic as a runner, bowler and a boxer,” his family said. He was very involved as the Gilroy Little League softball coach while his family was growing up. When his children were young he showed registered cattle with them in the 4-H and Open Division.

His professional life included activities as a investor in the stock market and real estate, as well as managing real estate properties. Jess was very active in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church of Hollister and in the last years of his life became very involved working with Child Protective Services. His home was approved as a residence for young children who needed assistance, and some of those children that he helped were later formally adopted by he and his wife Mauricia.

He is survived by his spouse Mauricia Perez; his children Anita Torrez (husband John), and Vivian Gonzalez ( husband Ruben) both of Gilroy, Alexis Perez-Santiago (spouse Santos),  Marrissa Nunez (spouse Fausto), Magali Sotelo, LeeRoy Sotelo, Felicia Perez, Natasha Perez, Michael Jess Perez, Jess Alex Perez, Gavin Fletcher, and Celeste Fletcher all of Hollister; his grandchildren Janae Torrez-Battle, Danielle Torrez, Cheryl Gonzalez, Michele Gonzalez, Chaylen Gonzalez, Allyssa Perez and Clarissa Nunez; his brothers and sisters are Eusebio Perez Jr. ,Marguerite Lopez, and Lupe Sembera all of Southern California, Manuel Perez, Jess A. Perez, Linda Sendejas, and John B. Perez all of Gilroy, Rachel P. Sanchez of San Martin, Rudy B. Perez of Utah, Edward B. Perez of San Jose, and Vivian A. Perez of Stockton; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation well be held Monday March 7 from 3 to 5pm at Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home 870 San Benito St., Hollister. Friends are invited to assemble at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church  2121 Sunnyslope Rd., Hollister Monday evening beginning at 6pm for funeral services which will begin at 7pm.

Family and friends will gather Tuesday morning at the church for a ceremony beginning at llam. Interment will follow at San Joaquin National Cemetery, Santa Nella, with military honors promptly at 2pm.

Donations may be made to the San Benito County Child Protective Services, Attn. Foster Care Program or to the Seventh-Day Adventist Church Scholarship Program c/o the mortuary chapel.
