Monnie Lappen passed away in Gilroy on March 14. She was 59 years old.
She was a native of California and lived in San Martin for the last 26 years.
She is survived by her husband Rick Lappen; her daughter Sara Costello; son Matthew Lappen; and step-children Tamera Lappen and Todd Lappen; her mother Mollie Sinclair; her brothers Casey and Mark Howard and her sister Jane McKellar.
She loved being a “Grammie” by her nine grandchildren and spending quality time with all of them as much as she could. Monnie was very family oriented and continued favorite family traditions in her home. She was a member of the San Martin Presbyterian Church for 25 years where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and sang in the choir.
Monnie became a member of the Gilroy Presbyterian Church in 2003, where she became very active in the congregation and the Joy Bible Stud Group. Monnie served on several committees in the early 80’s such as the San Martin Planning and South County Airport Task Force. She took pride in being involved in her small town. Monnie will be missed and remembered most for being a superior woman in all that she did. She was a very good friend to many and was very generous with her time and talents. After a long battle with breast cancer and other complications, she rest in peace with her Heavenly Father. Her family has asked that in lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society or the Gilroy Presbyterian Church.
