An unidentified man was beaten to death with a pipe early Sunday morning during a domestic dispute at a rural estate east of Gilroy.

Rogelio Roberto Garcia Jr., 25, was arrested without incident at the Duke Drive scene and is being held on suspicion of murder and violating a restraining order.

According to a neighbor, Garcia is the son of a man known as Roy Garcia, who is serving life in prison for the 1998 shotgun slaying of Deborah Gregg, in unincorporated Morgan Hill.

The Garcias purchased the estate, which includes a barn, at 10470 Duke Drive in 1994. According to property records, the deed was transferred from a Rogelio R. Garcia to a Roy R. Garcia in 1998.

The Santa Clara County Coroner declined to release the name of the deceased and in a press release, Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Deputy Terrance Helm said he could not release the name of the victim because his family had not been notified. The sheriff’s office was closed for the July 4 holiday and no deputy could be reached to confirm the relation between Rogelio and Roy Garcia.

Helm did say that sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a fight in progress between a man and woman about 1:17am Sunday morning. When they arrived, the deputies discovered a man lying unresponsive on the ground. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.
