Editor,
Regarding John Yewell’s column “What Lolita Taught Us About Art,” I disagree. I am conflicted about my strong advocacy for free speech in the arts and elsewhere and my strong concern for the right of women and children – and men, as well – to live safely in a world free of violence and opportunism. I wrestle with my belief that the arts, high and low, sometimes portray and encourage such acts. Such books and television programs and films are often read not as thought-provoking art, but as behavioral license.
