The rally is costing the city $360,000? Who’s running a city that can bring in more than 120,000 people and say that they’re losing money? The first thing that needs to be done is to fire all those in charge, whether they support the rally or not. How embarrassing is it that we have that type of management running the city of Hollister? What other areas of their leadership have cost the city money?

Well it’s all about money, so here is one solution. Charge all bikers and spectators $10 for a bracelet good for all three days of the event. Block all side streets that lead into San Benito, which most already were. Have volunteers at each of those areas checking bracelets. Only bikers and passengers were allowed to drive on San Benito street. Have the bracelets checked at the north and south entrance points. Ask any biker and they will say it would not pose a problem showing a bracelet.

As it is done with most rallies, sell tickets in advance along with the event T-shirt at a discount rate. Include in the package any discounts from local businesses to help get some of that biker money into their establishment. Ten dollars times 120,000 people is $1.2 million and that is just the start. The event T-shirt should be one of a kind and sold were bracelets are sold with all the proceeds going to the city.

Salinas has its Rodeo and Air Show. Gilroy has its Garlic Festival. Hollister has the biker rally.

Those of you that run the city can make this event very profitable if you treat it like a business.
