Lifetime Hollister resident Ismael A. “Smiley” Pena died Saturday, Jan. 17, at the age of 53 at Hazel Hawkins Northside Hospital.

Pena attended Willow Grove School and San Benito High School. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church. Pena’s work career included Alamanden Vineyards, Vessey Foods, Christopher Ranch, upholstering at Rowe Upholstery for 10 years and, most recently, Green River Laboratory.

He liked the outdoors, working in the yard, cooking and helping people upholster their automobiles. He enjoyed visits from his grandchildren – he kept a special jar of candy with sweets for them.

Pena is survived by wife Connie Pena of Visalia; children Rosemarie Pena-Martinez and husband David of Gilroy, Jamie Reyes and husband Alfred of Madera, Cindy Pena and husband Paul of Hollister, Ismael Pena Jr. and Jonathan Pena, both of Visalia; siblings Jose Pena and Sylvia Pena of Hollister, Bertha Pena of Michigan, Daniel Pena of Gilroy, Panfilo Pena Jr. of Sacramento and Isabel Lopez and Alex Pena, both of Hollister; grandchildren Anthony, Taya and Trinity Martinez, Alyssa Rea, Imonie Reyes, Nadia Reyes, Alfred Reyes Jr., Savanah Reyes, Miguel Lopez and Kayla Gutierrez; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Arrangements have been made for cremation through Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home and Crematory. Friends are invited to attend a rosary-vigil service Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at IOOF Cemetery in Hollister.
