Hollister native Thomas C. Molay died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004 in San Diego. He was 80.

Mr. Molay was a graduate of Sacred Heart Grammar School and Hollister High School.

He joined the Navy in 1941 and was a crew member of the battleship U.S.S. Utah when it was sunk during the attack on Pearl Harbor.

He was re-assigned to the cruiser U.S.S. Honolulu, which took park in actions in the Aletuians and the South Pacific.

Mr. Molay had made his home in Borrego Springs for many years.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Borrego Springs; sons Peter J. Molay of South Euclid, Ohio, John F. Molay of Honolulu, Hawaii, Bernard J. Molay of Worthington, Minn., Robert Molay and William Molay of San Deigo; several grandchildren; sisters Marjorie Lamb of San Juan Bautista and Mary Jean Stangohr of San Jose; brothers Paul Molay of Hillsboro, Ore., and Eugene Molay of Mountain View; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

A memorial service will be held in Borrego Springs at a later date.

When aboard the U.S.S. Utah, he was stationed on the third deck and his ashes will be placed there Dec. 6, 2004 during a memorial service.
