Tres Pinos native Mary E. Madruga passed away in Hollister on April 28, 2004. She was 97 years old.

A San Benito County resident for the last 53 years, she graduated from San Benito High School and attended Tres Pinos Grammar School.

In addition to being a member of the Native Daughters Of The Golden West, Immaculate Conception Parish and the Portuguese Lodges U.P.P.E.C. and I.D.E.S., she maintained her home for 70 years. Mary worked for the Baywood Creamery in the 1960s. She was also an assistant cook for Southside Convalescent Hospital in the mid 1970s. Her interests included working in the garden until she broke her leg at the age of 94. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and crocheting.

She was the wife of the late Manuel F. Madruga who passed away in 1956.

She is survived by her children, Phillip Madruga and wife, Beth, of Martinez; Norma Price and husband, Harvey, of Tres Pinos; Joseph Madruga and wife, Linda, of Paicines; and the late John and Charles Madruga. She is also survived by daughter-in-law Janis Madruga of Camarillo, Calif; her grandchildren Charles, Christopher, Mary Beth, Mitchell and Anthony Madruga; Catherine Chighizola, Jeanette Maroney and Gary Price; her great-grandchildren Mary Maroney, Crysta, Matthew, Sydney, and Ashlie Madruga; her sister Margaret Perry of Santa Maria; and several nieces and nephews.

As per Mary’s wishes, arrangements were made for a graveside service and burial Monday at Calvary Cemetery in the family plot next to her late husband.
