Sal was born in El Paso, Texas and grew up in Pacifica, Calif. For the last 16 years, he lived in Hollister.

Sal is survived by his sons, Evan and Erik and by the mother of his children, Susan Castillo. He will also be missed by his parents, Jose and Gladys Castillo of Pacifica; brothers Joe Castillo and wife Linda of Fair Oaks, Calif., Dennis Castillo of Baltimore, Md., Jeff (Austin) Castillo of Berkeley; and sisters, Lee Quint and her husband, Kevin, of Fallon, Nev. and Mildred Castillo of Pacifica.

In 1978, Sal graduated from San Francisco State University with a masters degree in social work. He had a very successful 27 year career as a social worker/director/associate director of various social work agencies including Eastfield, Oddfellow-Rebekah Children’s Home, The Bridge and Monterey County Children and Families Commission. Sal was deeply committed to social justice.

Memorial services were held on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Grace Bible Church in Hollister. Pastor Jim Achilles officiated. Private family inturnment will follow cremation.

Arrangements and cremation are through Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home and Gavilan Hills Crematory, Hollister.
