Cecil “John” H. Truax died peacefully Saturday August 28, 2004 after long bout with lung cancer. He passed in his home in the care of his good friend and companion for the last six months, Barbara “Bobbie” Nelson, of Daly City.
John was a refrigeration repairman in the southern Santa Clara area for over 20 years until his illnesses forced him to retire in 1999. Born in New Mexico on May 18, 1941, to Earl and Cecil Truax, he was the youngest of 14 siblings. He also served as a Navy Seabee for 9 years.
He is survived by his loving daughter, “Mandy” Allen, and her mother, Kathy, of Kent, Washington. He will be remembered by Mark Dambaugh, Kevin Haile, John Lancer, Sal Serros, Bobby Serros, Richard Ayala, and Juan Coronado with whom he spoke with frequently as well as a host of other friends. He will be especially remembered by his good friend, Felix Ordiniza of Hollister, who knew him as “Pilgrim” and enjoyed their many Dutch oven “cook-offs”. Felix’s son, Anthony, was his beloved godson having been born on John’s 43rd birthday.
His family and friends would also like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Leslie Schmidt, Dr. Kimberly Shepard, and their staffs at the San Martin and San Jose Valley Medical for doing more than their best for John. Also, a big hug and kiss for Cathy Larson, RN, at the San Jose Valley Medical Center for her overwhelming kindness to John – he loved her dearly.
As requested by the deceased, there will be no funeral — a “remembrance party” party is being planned around Navy week with notices going out to those interested in attending. Please contact Barbara at (408) 686-0975.
