Frank G. Stephenson, Jr. died Friday morning in Elk Grove. He was 57.

He was born in Renton, Wash. and moved to the New Idria area in San Benito County in 1959. He attended New Idria school and graduated from San Benito Joint Union High School. Frank served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and had worked for 33 years with the California Department of Forestry working in San Benito, Monterey and Santa Clara counties.

He was a member of the IAFF (International Association of Fire Fighters) and a former member of the Local VFW Post.

He is survived his wife, Sally Stephenson of Hollister; children, Heather Lowry and husband Patrick of Elk Grove and Frank Stephenson, III of Hollister; grandchildren, Tyler Stephenson of Gilroy, and Sean and Kay Lowry of Elk Grove. He is the son of Shirley Stephenson of Arizona and the late Frank G. Stephenson, Sr. who died in 1997; brother of Suzan Souza of Hollister, Gayan Ratzlaff, Janet Fernandez and John Jeffrey all of Arizona. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. 

A memorial service will be held Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 1, at 2 P.M. in the chapel of Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home. Fr. Rudy Ruiz of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will officiate. Inurnment and graveside services are pending at San Joaquin National Cemetery in Santa Nella. Arrangements for cremation are under the direction of Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Crematory in Hollister.

Contributions are preferred to the Disabled Veterans of America or CDF Firefighters Benevolent Fund, C/O the funeral home.
