San Juan Bautista resident Nobuko “Betty” Nishita died unexpectedly Saturday, May 31, 2003 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital. She was 83.

Mrs. Nishita was born in the Imperial Valley and had lived in San Benito County since 1945. She was a homemaker for most of her life and was a member of the Watsonville Buddhist Temple, the Japanese-American Citizens League, Fujin Kai and Golden Years of Hollister.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Frank Nishita of San Juan Bautista; her children and their spouses, Steve and Leanne Nishita of Hollister and Ron and Elaine Nishita of Tucson, Ariz.; two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Kusaka.

Visitation will be on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 4 until 7 p.m. and Thursday morning before services.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 5 at 1 p.m. at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at San Juan District Cemetery.
