Ruby Crangle Crist died at the Mabie Skilled Nursing Center on Wednesday, Oct. 1.

Crist quietly celebrated her 100 birthday Sept. 22. She was born and raised in Simsbury, Conn., with two brothers and one sister. Throughout her life, she would affectionately quote words of wisdom from her mother who was related to poet Emily Dickinson.

As the wife of Col. Francis Murray Crist for almost 30 years, she lived on many Army posts throughout the country. She enjoyed horseback riding, knitting and playing bridge. She had a delightful sense of humor and a quick wit. She had a varied and interesting life, enjoying acquaintanceships with many famous people, including the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and Eleanor Roosevelt.

After the death of her husband, she lived in Philadelphia before moving to Carmel, where she resided for 37 years. She will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery beside her husband.

She is survived by her loving and devoted friend of 42 years, Dan Thomas of Hollister.

Private services will be held through Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home.

Donations may be made to Hazel Hawkins Hospital Foundation in care of the funeral home chapel.
