Dorothy Ann Merrill died Thursday, Oct. 16 in Hollister after a brief illness. She was 85.

She was a native of Detroit, Mich.

She is survived by her children Charles Merrill of Hollister, Robert and his wife Joyce Merrill of Hollister and Ann and her husband Jim Harrison of Mountain Ranch, Calif. She is also survived by her grandchildren Robbie Merrill of Abilene, Texas, Joshua Merrill of Salinas, Christina Harnson of Mountain Ranch and Sarah Jones of Hemet and great-grandchildren Benjamin Giancola of Mountain Ranch and Candice Merrill of Abilene.

She was preceded in death by her husband Tucker Merrill.

She was a veteran of World War II and received her master’s degree from the University of Michigan. She was a school teacher in both the Detroit and Hollister areas.

Dorothy was a charter member and past president of the VFW Auxiliary, member of the American Legion, past president of the PTA, member and former deacon of the First Presbyterian Church in Hollister, a longtime volunteer at the adult day care in Hollister,  and was the Volunteer of the Year in 2001.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 21, from noon to 8 p.m. at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home in Hollister. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Hollister. Burial will follow at the IOOF Cemetery in Hollister. 

Donations may be made to a favorite charity in her memory.
