Hollister resident Sam P. Lomanto died suddenly at his home Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003. He was 83.
He was born in San Jose and came to San Benito County 83 years ago. He was educated in local schools.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, B.P.O.E. 1436 of Hollister, the S.I.R.S., Farm Bureau, the 6 a.m. coffee group at Ra’s Donuts and Deli, and the I.C.F of Hollister.
He loved ocean fishing, lake fishing at San Luis Reservoir, Eagle Lake and Lake Pyramid. He also enjoyed deer and bird hunting.
He belonged to the Winnebago Group and the Good Sam Group and traveled throughout the Western States vacationing and fishing.
He was an orchardist in San Benito County for more than 50 years.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Sam E. and Janet Lomanto of Hollister; daughter and son-in-law Cookie and Sal Felice of Hollister; grandchildren Sam Lomanto of Hollister, Tracey McDonnell of Manteca, Sal Felice of Hollister, Damon Felice of Hollister and Jenae Felice of Hollister; great-grandchildren Tanner and Dylan Lomanto of Hollister, Austin McDonnel of Manteca, Miranda McDonnell of Manteca and Dominic Felice of Hollister; brother and his spouse Johnny and Babe Lomanto of Hollister; and sisters and their spouses Marian and Richard Falconi of Hollister, Lucy and the late Buster Intravia of Hollister and Dorothy and the late Tony Lomanto of Hollister. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Lomanto, who died May 9, 2002, brother Carmen Lomanto and his late wife Edna, and sister Marie DaRosa and her late husband Anthony.
A visitation was held Monday, Dec. 22 until 6 p.m. at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home.
Family and friends will leave the funeral home chapel Tuesday, Dec. 23 at 9:30 a.m. to go to Sacred Heart Church for a Mass beginning at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow at Calvary Mausoleum.
