Former Hollister resident
Former Hollister resident Raymond L. “Jack” Gray died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002 at his home in Purcellville, Va. He was 90.

Mr. Gray was born in Henderson County, Texas and lived in Lubbock County, Texas for 69 years. He moved to Hollister in 1980 and lived here until moving to Virginia in June 2001 to live with his son.

He was a water well driller and windmiller in Texas and was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 713th Tank Battalion Flame Thrower Unit on Okinawa.

He was active in church work and was a member of the Apostolic Full Gospel Church of Christ in Hollister. He enjoyed gospel singing and playing the piano.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mineola; his sons, James Roy Gray of Hollister and Gordon Stewart of Purcellville, Va.; his foster daughter, Elsie Crowder of Lubbock, Texas; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services were conducted Nov. 5 by the military at Quantico National Cemetery, Va., officiated by the Rev. Waverly Reames.
