Hollister resident Garth K. Fickas died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital. He was 55.

Mr. Fickas was born in Salinas and had lived in Hollister for 22 years. He attended Gonzales High School and was a spray foreman with Western Farm Service in Hollister and the Salinas area for more than 26 years.

He loved the outdoors and agriculture, and devoted more than 35 years to serving and supporting farmers and crop production.

He is survived by the mother of his children and lifelong friend Valerie Newton of Southwest City, Mo.; his sons and their wives, Wayne and Sule Fickas and Kenneth and Jy Fickas, all of Yuba City; his brothers, Paul Fickas of Salinas and Mark Fickas of Escondido; his sister Nancy Smith of Hollister; two grandchildren, four nephews and a niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aromas residents Kenneth and Ellen Fickas, and his sister Barbara Fickas-Lopez.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 16 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 720 Monterey St. in Hollister. Private interment will be at San Juan District Cemetery at a later date.

Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home.
