Hollister resident
Katherine L.Hicks died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was 77.
Mrs. Hicks was born in Topeka, Kansas. She moved to Watsonville in the 1940s and later lived in Oroville before moving to Hollister five years ago.
She was a nurse for more than 30 years and was a tap dancer and musician as a young woman, playing the bump stick and other instruments with her husband in the Strawhatters Band in the Santa Cruz and Oroville areas. She also played in the Russian River Banjo Band for many years. She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge No. 212 of Guerneville.
She is survived by her children, Rosie Pruitt and her husband, Jerry, and Mona Walters, all of Hollister, and Leah Augustine of Petaluma; her sister, Arletta Powell of Hollister; eight grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death four years ago by her husband, Norman Hicks; and three brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday after 9 a.m. at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Edwin L. Kopper of Green Valley Christian Center in Watsonville will officiate.
Cremation by Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Crematory will follow with private inurnment.
Memorials are preferred to the Green Valley Christian Center.
