A Hollister woman sustained moderate injuries Tuesday in an accident at Fairview and Sunnyslope roads when her car collided head-on with a large pickup truck.
Jessica French, 21, of Hollister was taken by ambulance to Hazel Hawkins Hospital where she was treated for a broken elbow and cuts to her right hand and side, the California Highway Patrol said.
The 5:50 p.m. accident happened when French was southbound on Fairview, with what appeared to be wrapped Christmas presents covering the back seat of her 1999 Saturn LS.
As French approached the intersection at Sunnyslope Road, Douglas Menzel, 62, of Hollister failed to yield the right-of-way to French while trying to make a left turn onto Fairview in a 1990 Ford F-350 pickup, the CHP said.
As Menzel entered the intersection he reportedly pulled directly in front of French, striking her sedan head-on, the CHP said.
Emergency crews blocked off the intersection for nearly an hour as they administered to French’s injuries and removed the wreckage from the middle of the intersection.
Neither Menzel nor his passenger, Ashley Amaral, 19, of Hollister were injured.
No arrests were made. The accident is under investigation.
