I see the 49ers will play in the second game of a two-part
Monday Night Football season opener Sept. 10. When was the last
time the 49ers played a Monday night game? I can’t even remember. I
guess this is a sign that the NFL and ESPN are taking the 49ers a
little more seriously this year.

– He shot 73 in the final round and still wins the World Golf Championship at Doral’s famed Blue Monster course. I guess not even a bad round can stop Tiger Woods.

– The March Madness tournament this year seems to be more memorable than it has in the last handful of years, and I’d like to thank the NBA for helping out with that. The league’s decision to ban high school players from entering the NBA draft has forced the top players in the nation to go to college and compete there first before embarking on a pro career. The move has clearly impacted play at the NCAA level for the better.

– For those of you still examining your brackets and tournament picks, I’m predicting the championship game will be between UCLA and Ohio State. The final score: Ohio State 84, UCLA 79

– The Major League baseball games that have been taking place the past month will finally count this week. Can you say Amen? And while you’re at it, pass me a stadium dog and a Coke.

– While the A’s officially get under way on Monday at Seattle, the Giants kick off their 2007 campaign at home on Tuesday against San Diego.

– Three weeks after America’s pastime gets under way the NFL will be back at it drafting players for its fall season. Time really does fly.

– Unfortunately, what the league really needs to draft is a policy that keeps its players in check and on the straight and narrow.

In the past year, such players as cornerback Adam Jones of Tennessee had 10 separate encounters with the police. Chicago’s defensive tackle Tank Johnson was sentenced to four months in jail on weapons charges. While they made headlines for their actions so did the nine Cincinnati Bengals players, who got in trouble off the field.

And it doesn’t stop there.

The same week Johnson made headlines Carolina Panthers reserve guard D’Anthony Batiste was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon, a misdemeanor. A day later the Las Vegas police said they will seek felony and misdemeanor charges against Jones and two others in a February shooting at a strip club.

It’s one thing when these guys get a little heated up during play and mix it up a bit on the field, but when the police are getting involved off the field it’s time that the NFL clean up it’s image. Vince Lombardi and Tom Landry, wish you were here.

With all of the Madness that’s been going on with the March Madness tournament few people have noticed that there has been plenty of madness going on at the Shark Tank in San Jose this month. In fact, the Sharks have gone on such an attack that they now have the Anaheim Ducks in their sights and appear poised to take over the lead in the Pacific Division.

During the stretch, the Sharks ripped off eight wins over a 10-game period while the Ducks struggled after briefly losing defenseman Chris Pronger to a toe injury. During that same period, the Ducks lost 10 of 16 games without him.

So if you’re thinking about picking up some A’s or Giants tickets, you might want to consider grabbing some San Jose Sharks playoffs tickets, too, as it looks like an exciting finish in the West.
