San Benito coming off
33-6 victory over Alisal
Hollister – The San Benito High football team knew it didn’t have the luxury of a letdown when it hosted Alisal on Friday night.

It figured that the Trojans would come into the game hoping to prey on the fact that the ‘Balers dropped a tough 28-21 decision to first-place Palma the week before. And Alisal came in on a high after rallying from 22 points down to beat Gilroy.

What did all of that lead to? The most steady performance of the season for San Benito and a smashing 33-6 win over the Trojans.

“We played pretty well. Our kids played hard,” San Benito head coach Chris Cameron said. “It was a big game for a couple of reasons. We wanted to try to get back to our winning ways after a tough defeat.”

Alisal has proven itself to be a threat this season and the ‘Balers knew it. The Trojans only Tri-County Athletic League loss had also been to Palma, so Friday’s game had a lot of implications. The teams had identical 2-1 league records and a loss could’ve been a big blow to San Benito.

“There was a lot on the line,” Cameron said. “Since we lost to Palma … that became the biggest game of the year.”

On cue, the ‘Balers delivered their biggest performances of the season. As a result, they are alone in second place in the TCAL with two weeks remaining.

Given the quality of the opponent, Cameron was particularly pleased with the effort.

“They’re a playoff bound team and we beat them pretty soundly,” Cameron said.
