The man, Eddie Martinez, 26, was airlifted to the hospital after complaining of internal injuries.

Martinez is still at the hospital, according to the California Highway Patrol, but the hospital could not release his status.

The two-vehicle accident occurred at McCloskey Road off Fairview Road and sent one resident to the hospital complaining of internal injuries.

The accident occurred around 9:45 a.m., when the Hollister man, 26, driving a burgundy Mitsubishi Galant made a left turn onto McCloskey Road from Fairview Road. A Hollister woman driving a red Toyota Tacoma was eastbound on McCloskey Road at the time, according to the CHP.

The Tacoma, driving at about 40 mph, slammed into the Galant, hitting the driver’s side of the car.

The driver’s side was inverted, trapping the driver in the car, CHP Officer Luis Alvarez said. The driver eventually wrestled himself out of the car, but immediately complained of pains.

“I wasn’t able to get a statement yet because he was in so much pain,” Alvarez said.

The driver was flown to the hospital, Alvarez said. There was a passenger in the Galant who was uninjured. The driver and passenger of the Tacoma didn’t complain of any injuries.

The accident closed down McCloskey Road for 45 minutes, as officers tried to clear the roadway of debris. Around 10:30 a.m., the two vehicles were removed from the area on flatbeds.
