Hollister resident Adolph “Kitty” S. Cosio Sr. died suddenly in his home Monday, Dec. 29, at the age of 73.

Originally from Arizona, Cosio moved to San Benito County in 1943 and attended local schools. Cosio worked at the General Motors plant in Fremont, the Fairview Canning Company in Hollister and the City of San Jose in the parks and recreation department from where he retired in 1984. At his retirement from the City of San Jose, Cosio was given a plaque and gold watch for his 19 years of service.

Cosio was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the City of San Jose Retired Employees Association and a former member of the United Auto Workers Union. He also maintained the ballpark for the San Jose B’s baseball team during his tenure with San Jose.

St. Jude Charity was his favorite recipient of his reports and donations.

“He was a gentleman farmer and orchardist on the property he lived on in Hollister,” said his family. “He enjoyed raising tomatoes and apricots.” He enjoyed gardening, fishing with his children and being with family.

“He was crafty with his hands working on automobiles and with masonry work.”

Cosio was preceded in death by brother Pete Cosio, sisters Marian Lopez and Sally Banks and parents Pedro and Hortencia Soto Cosio. He is survived by his children Adolph A. Cosio of Madera, Anthony “Rudy” Cosio of Long Beach, Marian and Todd Anderson of Mission Viejo, and Vivian “Penny” and John Murphy of San Diego; grandchildren David Cosio and Melissaand Maria Marich; brothers Gilbert and Ida Cosio of Hollister, Richard and Wilma Cosio of San Jose, Robert and Jolene Cosio of San Juan Bautista, Joseph Cosio of Santa Cruz and Harvey Cosio of Hollister; and sisters Molly and Raul Clemente of Folsom and Helen and Joe Andrade of Hollister.

Cosio is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Visitation will be held at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 2, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the chapel of the Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home. Internment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
