Former Hollister resident
Former Hollister resident Albert H. Yockey died Dec. 12, 2002 in Susanville. He was 87.

Mr. Yockey was born in Joplin, Mo. and lived in Pawhuska, Okla. before moving to Hollister, where he met and married his late wife. The son of a man who had owned two paint stores, he worked for Ed Hooper Painting and with his brothers as Yockey Brothers Painting and also owned and operated Yockey’s Paint Store. He painted a house in Hollister that was part of the TV miniseries “East of Eden.”

After retiring in 1982, Mr. Yockey and his wife moved to Westwood, where they opened the Old Mill Cafe. They also lived in Reno and Susanville. He enjoyed talking on the CB radio, collecting pink elephants and going to flea markets.

He is survived by his children, Bettie Yockey and Yvonne Culp, both of Oklahoma, Janet Chappell and Elta Silva, both of Westwood, Cherie Spencer of Susanville and Jim Burgess of Seattle; his brothers, Morris Yockey of Seal Beach and Roger Yockey of Anaheim; his sisters, Bonnie Panelli of Palm Springs, June Hartman of Lodi and Norma Zanella of Woodland; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby; his brothers, Ralph and Marvin Yockey; his sister, Beulah Yockey; and his granddaughter, Tawne.
