Alma Irene Carlsen passed away Thursday, September 6, 2007 in King City, CA, following a short illness.

Born October 30, 1934 in King City, Alma was loved by many and will be missed by all. She loved life, was a great artist, illustrator and loved to write poems of lifes every day stories. She was also involved in The Mountain Oyster Restaurant in Coalinga.

Alma attended Bitterwater-Tully School, King City High School and graduated from Coalinga High School in 1953. She lived most of her life on the Eade Ranch in Hernandez Valley.

She was also a trustee for Bitterwater-Tully School for 7 years serving as clerk for 6 years. She published the first yearbook starting in 2001 and every year thereafter. She also helped with the music program as well as the play productions.

Alma also served 19 years as a volunteer for The Salinas Rodeo winning “The Directors Patio Outstanding Volunteer” award in 2002.

She is survived by her husband of 15 years, Jerry Carlsen, four sons; Dan, (Cheryl) Palmer, Bryon (Gladys) Palmer, Matt (Judy) Palmer and Rodney Carlsen, six daughters; Treva (Tom) Firth, Yvette Palmer, Lynette Costa, Carrie Carlsen, Kim (Chuck) Richion, and Melanie (Pat) Kennedy, 27 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, sisters; Donna (George) Palmer and Leslee (Mike) Curran.

A memorial service barbecue will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Carlsen home, 6125 Coalinga Rd. at noon. Family and friends are welcome.
