Alvin “Al” D. Davis, 79, of Salinas, died May 18 in Salinas from natural causes.

He was born May 3, 1925 in Minnesota. He was an instructor in electrical engineering for 10 years at the naval post graduate school. He served in the Navy, Army and Air Force from 1943 to 1965. He loved to fish anywhere there was water and enjoyed hunting. He was a devout Catholic. He spent a lot of time with his family and also liked planting trees. He traveled all over the world with his wife – everywhere but South America.

He is survived by his wife, Jennie Davis; sons, Timothy Davis and Daniel (Julie) Davis; daughters, Kathleen (Bill) Adair, Bonnie (Mark) Tognazzini, Jennifer Westerbeck and Nona Landess; sister, Ione Sawyer; grandchildren, Lisa Gumbiner, Chris Marier, Kellie Branco, Brian Branco, Bradley Westerbeck, Dustin Westerbeck, Brittney Westerbeck, Matt Souza and Amanda Landess; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation is today at 10 a.m. to noon at Whitehurst Muller Chapel. Rosary will be at noon with the service at 12:30 p.m. at Whitehurst Muller Chapel. The family has arranged a private family burial.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Al’s name to Friends of Historic San Antonio Mission, 2360 Alisal Road, Salinas, CA 93908

Arrangements are under the direction of Whitehurst Muller Funeral Service.
