The quake occurred at 10:44 a.m. and was centered six miles northwest of Pinnacles National Monument in San Benito County, according to the USGS. It was about 20 miles south/southeast from Hollister.

The depth was at 5.4 miles, according to the USGS.

Residents felt the quake as far away as the Morgan Hill area to the north and the Carmel Valley to the west.
