Gilroy resident Anthony Daniel Suniga Sr., 53, passed away
Wednesday, June 25, at Kaiser Santa Clara Hospital after a lengthy
illness.

Gilroy resident Anthony Daniel Suniga Sr., 53, passed away Wednesday, June 25, at Kaiser Santa Clara Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Suniga was born and raised in Gilroy. He was a graduate of Gilroy High School, a U.S. Navy veteran and worked for the Pacific Gas & Electric Company for over 30 years. Suniga played Gilroy Park and Recreation softball for many years, and enjoyed music, barbecuing, playing golf and being around his family.

He is survived by his children and their spouses: Anthony Daniel Suniga Jr., Nathan Edward Suniga and wife Angela, Nicole Lorraine Suniga and Jason Vincent Suniga, all of Gilroy; brothers Raymond Suniga and Ruben Suniga, both of Gilroy; sister Sophie Armendarez of Gilroy; and grandchildren Alyssa and Jordan Suniga of San Jose, Samie Suniga of Hollister, Jonathan and Jenelle Suniga of Gilroy and Alanah Suniga of Gilroy. Suniga is also survived by many nieces, nephews, uncle, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by brother Arthur Suniga.

A vigil will be held today at 6:30 p.m. at the Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy. Funeral services will begin Wednesday, July 2, at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, then to St. Mary Catholic Church for Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park in Gilroy.
