Anthony (Tony) Furtado, 91, of Gilroy, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Village Green on June 28, 2010. Anthony was born on April 11, 1919 to Antone and Marie Furtado. He lived on the Ausaymus Ranch and on Lovers Lane. In 1932 he and his family moved to the ranch on Roop Road in Gilroy. He was married to Norma Quartiero on February 12, 1955. They built a house on the family ranch and raised their two sons, Thomas and Richard (Carol). Norma preceded Anthony in death on February 13, 1980. There are two grandchildren Richard and Amber. Anthony had seven sisters. He was preceded in death by Adeline (Fred) Miller, Leona (Manuel) Mutoza, Dorothy (Louie) Lemos and Laura (Floyd) Maestri. Survived by Madeline (Tony) Andrade, Helen (George) Azevedo and Marianne (Joe) Sutton. There are many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

Anthony worked with his Father on the small dairy and ranch. He was a member of the Home Guard. He worked on ranches and hauled hay, worked at Filice and Perelli Cannery before he was a road maintenance employee for Santa Clara County for over 25 years until his retirement. Anthony belonged to the St. Mary’s Parrish and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and Morgan Hill Fish Club. After his retirement he enjoyed his family, fishing, being a cowboy, and bus trips to various casinos. He was definitely a people person and will always be loved and missed by many.
