Antoinette Margaret Gattuccio Conrad October 9, 1922 – June 23, 2014

 (Toni) Conrad, long-time resident of the San Francisco Bay Area, passed away June 23, 2014, at age 91.
 Born on October 9, 1922, she grew up in the San Jose area on prune and apricot orchards owned by her parents Joseph Gattuccio and Dora D’anna Gattuccio, both immigrants from Sicily.
 She attended Los Gatos High School, and then earned a nursing degree from San Jose State University and a Master’s in Public Health from UC Berkeley. She worked as a public health nurse in San Francisco until 1953 when she married Walter (Hank) Conrad, shocking her parents by finding the love of her life in a quiet man of German descent from Port Washington, WI.
 Toni and Hank settled in Palo Alto, CA, where they raised three children and lived for over 50 years until health problems dictated a move to Gilroy to be closer to their daughter Ann.
 In Palo Alto, Toni worked as a nursery school teacher, school nurse and teacher’s aide for special education and hearing-impaired children. She was known for her mean game of tennis, her remarkable green thumb and beautiful garden, her absolute love of children and animals, her ability to talk to anyone and make friends instantly, and her unfailing positive attitude, laughter, and delight in life.
 Toni turned even a mundane activity like waiting in a grocery store line into an opportunity to share and laugh with people who were suddenly her friends.
 She was preceded in death by her husband Hank, her sister Marie Gattuccio Intaschi, and her brother Joseph Gattuccio.
 She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Sally Conrad of Katonah, NY, and their children Noel and Julia; her daughter and son-in-law Ann and Robert Barham of Gilroy, CA, and their daughter Emily; and her daughter and son-in-law Susan Conrad and Timothy Pfeiffer of Portland, OR.
